Korean dramas are the big things happening now. From Parasite winning Best Picture at the Oscars and Squid Game being the most viewed show on Netflix. It’s the perfect time to be a fan of the Korean media. So I decided to take this opportunity to review a Netflix K-Drama that I was binging recently, Vincenzo.

Vincenzo is a crime drama thriller series from tvN (television variety Network) and Netflix that stars Song Joong-ki (Descendants of the Sun), Jeon Yeo-been (After My Death), 2PM’s Ok Taec-yeon (Dream High), Kim Yeo-jin (Peppermint Candy), and Kwak Dong-yeon (Love in the Moonlight).

The show is about a Korean Italian mafia consigliere Vincenzo Cassano (Song) who returns back to South Korea to steal hidden gold in plaza only for him to be part of a fight against mega corporation Babel Group.

One thing I should mention about the show is that K-Dramas are commitments. Most of the K-Dramas are known for being about 16–20 episodes long with each episode being about 60–70 minutes long. Vincenzo is a 20 episode series with each episode about 70 minutes long.

Viewers might get turned off from main character Vincenzo because he’s an antihero. You see him committing horrible crimes (He is a member of the mafia after all) but you end up cheering for him to win because they make the bad guys more evil and have them commit more horrible crimes than him. Some of the acting might be seen as over acting but if you are familiar with K-Dramas, this is a normal thing in most of the shows. The tone of the show might also alienate people because sometimes you see heavy scenes then the next scene is a comedy scene. Which is another thing you will expect in K-Dramas.

The show does a great job with hooking up the viewers to stay and continue watching the series. They end up episodes with cliffhangers that make you interested to see what will happen next. Some of the stuff is predictable and formulaic but if you are into these types of shows you might enjoy it.

I actually enjoyed Vincenzo. I don’t think the show will hook people up like Squid Game but if you are into soap operas that are filled with twist and turns you might enjoy Vincenzo.

Final Verdict: 8/10

Vincenzo is available to stream on Netflix
